Before you can save on power, you need to know what you're paying for it. Here's how to read your bill and find your true cost per unit.
Key figures
- Units consumed (kWh) — how much energy you used.
- Tariff band and rate — your price per kWh.
- Fixed charges and VAT — added on top.
Find your real rate
Divide your total bill by the units consumed to get your effective cost per kWh. Then add your generator fuel to see your blended true cost of power — usually much higher than the grid rate alone.
