How deeply you drain a battery each cycle largely decides how many years it lasts. This is the single most misunderstood spec.

What DoD means

Depth of discharge is how much of a battery's capacity you use before recharging. Draw 8kWh from a 10kWh battery and that's 80% DoD.

Deeper drains, shorter life

Every chemistry has a safe DoD. Regularly exceeding it shortens lifespan fast. Lithium tolerates deep cycling (80–90%); tubular and gel prefer shallower (~50%), which is why they're sized larger for the same usable energy.
